Setup
- Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and a slight bend in your knees.
- Extend your arms straight out to your sides at shoulder height with your palms facing forward.
- Engage your core and maintain a neutral spine with your gaze forward.
How to do it
- Swing your arms horizontally across your chest in a controlled motion, crossing one arm over the other.
- Immediately swing your arms back out as far as comfortable to feel a deep stretch in the chest and front of the shoulders.
- Inhale as you open your arms wide and exhale as you cross them in front of your body.
- Continue the movement rhythmically, alternating which arm crosses on top for each repetition.
Form checklist
- Keep your arms at shoulder height throughout the movement.
- Avoid arching your lower back as your arms swing behind your torso.
- Keep your shoulders down and away from your ears to avoid shrugging.
- Maintain a slight bend in the elbows to protect the joints.
Pro tips
- Focus on actively squeezing your shoulder blades together at the end of the outward swing to maximize the stretch.
- Vary the angle of the swing slightly—sometimes higher, sometimes lower—to target different fibers of the pectoral muscles.
Make it harder
- Hold very light micro-plates (1-2 lbs) to add a small amount of resistance to the dynamic movement.
- Increase the tempo of the swings while maintaining a perfectly still and braced torso.
